ART in Public Places

Local Education is Celebrated in New City Hall Exhibit

To commemorate the start of the school year, the Art in Public Places Gallery at City Hall presents School Bells Are Ringing: Winter Garden’s Lakeview and Charles R. Drew High Schools. Provided by the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation, the exhibit explores the history of Winter Garden’s education institutions through a series of photographs and artifacts gathered across a century.

From one-room wooden schoolhouses through the modern, technically advanced centers of education nourishing our students today, the exhibit shows that education has been a priority in the region since the very beginning.

August is Water Quality Month

Water quality month reminds us to consider how important our water resources are, not just to humans, but to all the other inhabitants of our world. Imagine life without easy access to clean water. No drinking from the tap, no pools, no more lakes and rivers for recreation, no more long showers. No more running water in your home. Your life would look totally different.

The folks in the City’s Public Utilities Department work hard all year long to provide safe, clean drinking water. In fact, Winter Garden was recognized with the Best Tasting Tap Water in Central Florida Award last year, sponsored by the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association.

Why Recognize Our Water?
Almost everything on our planet relies on water.  However, many of us take it for granted. Even though 70% of the Earth’s surface area is water, nearly 97% is salty or otherwise undrinkable. Another 2% is locked in ice caps and glaciers, leaving only 1% for all humanity’s needs: agricultural, residential, manufacturing, community, and personal. That small percentage must sustain over 7 billion people on earth!

What Can You Do to Protect Our Water?
•    Don’t pollute or litter anywhere. Most pollutants end up in our waterways.
•    Don’t waste water.

Learn More:
•    Take a City of Winter Garden Water Plant Tour to learn how water gets from the source to your home. (Tours are available February - May.)
•    Click here to review the 2023 City of Winter Garden Annual Water Quality Report. (Once again, the City of Winter Garden Water Treatment & Pumping Division had no monitoring or reporting violations.)

For more information about water conservation or to register for a water plant tour, call 407.877.5193.

Pippin
Book by Roger O. Hirson / Music & Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

August 23 – September 15 | Matinee and Evening Performances

There’s magic to do as a charismatic Leading Player tells the story of Pippin, a young man who searches for the secret to true happiness and fulfillment in Stephen Schwartz’s iconic and unforgettable musical masterpiece. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power. At the journey's end, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the unextraordinary moments that happen every day.

Nominated for numerous Tony Awards in 1973 and again in 2013 with the show’s revival, PIPPIN continues to captivate audiences around the world.
