Citizens Police Academy
Ever wonder what goes on inside your police department? Get your questions answered at the next Citizens Police Academy class!

This is a 9-week course meeting every Wednesday evening at the Winter Garden Police Department training room from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. The classes are instructed by Winter Garden police officers and staff who will discuss such topics as crime prevention, defensive tactics, uniformed patrol, special operations, criminal investigations, drug identification, and many other interesting topics. Also available is a ride along with a uniformed patrol officer.

The next Citizens Police Academy will begin on August 31, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. at the Winter Garden Police Department training room. The graduation will take place on October 26, 2016. Anyone interested in participating in the next Citizens Police Academy class must complete an application and send it to:

The program is

  • Nine weeks (27-hour program)
  • Three hours per session from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Free to residents
  • Allows participants to be eligible for a ride-along with an officer on patrol

To be eligible

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Complete an application
  • Have no criminal record
  • Must sign a Release & Waiver form
  • Preference will be given to residents, but those who work in or for the city can fill available seats
  • Class size is limited
