Florida Reemployment (Unemployment) Assistance Program

The Reemployment Assistance program provides temporary and partial wage replacement for qualified workers who have become unemployed, through no fault of their own, during this public health emergency. You can apply online for Reemployment Assistance (formerly known as unemployment compensation) if you were working in Florida and are now:

  1. temporarily unable to work due to positive COVID-19 test result
  2. quarantined by a medical professional or a government agency
  3. laid off or sent home without pay for an extended period because of COVID-19
  4. caring for an immediate family member diagnosed with COVID-19

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance provides up to 39 weeks of assistance benefits to individuals who are self-employed, independent contractors, certain non-profit employees and gig economy workers, as well as to individuals working part-time, or who otherwise would not qualify for regular state Reemployment Assistance benefits. Orange County COVID-19 Eviction Diversion Program

The Orange County COVID-19 Eviction Diversion Programs provides relief to tenants in imminent danger of eviction who have experienced a loss or reduction of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program has a total capacity of $20 million, and will provide up to $4,000 in past-due rent, paid to the landlord, for tenants who are in imminent danger of eviction due to COVID-19, and meet the eligibility criteria.

  • Must be two-months behind in rent
  • Both landlord and tenants must agree to participate
  • Assistance for Orange County residents, ID required
  • Tenants will need a copy of their lease, two bank statements and documentation of COVID-19 hardship

The landlord and tenant will sign a contractual agreement, which ensures the landlord will not initiate the tenant eviction process for 60 days after receiving approval from Orange County. The landlord will also agree not to increase any participating tenant household’s rent through December 31, 2020.

Eviction and Foreclosure Moratorium

On April 2, 2020, Governor DeSantis signed Executive Order 20-94, placing restrictions on the use of laws for evictions and foreclosures for 45 days, to include any extensions. You still have an obligation to make payments towards your mortgage or rent unless you have made special arrangements with your mortgage provider or landlord. The State of Florida will not allow someone to be evicted or foreclosed on for non-payment while the Executive Order is in effect. The FHFA have announced a nationwide eviction and foreclosure moratorium for borrowers of Fannie or Freddie mortgages, or borrowers whose loans are backed by the Federal Housing Administration (F.H.A. loans). This includes foreclosures that are already in progress.

Food Resources

Second Harvest’s Food Locator can help residents find local emergency food providers. Please call the local emergency food provider before heading there, to make sure that their hours or location has not changed.

Central Florida United is a regional team initiative created in response to COVID-19.  It provides resources to assist individuals in a variety of ways, including assisting with food.

Seniors First offers meal options to help older adults get the nutrition they need.

OCPS Summer Meals are distributed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. Students and/or a parent or guardian can pick up breakfast and lunch. On Thursday, they can pick up two days of breakfast and lunch. 

Other Resources

Heart of Florida United Way connects residents to financial, mental health and crisis assistance programs through its 2-1-1 service and has established a fund to support residents whose financial stability is being impacted by the economic consequences of COVID-19.  

Residents experiencing COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath should contact the Florida Department of Health in Orange County before visiting their healthcare provider.

Aspire Health Partners is offering a dedicated telephone line to assist residents with mental health concerns related to COVID-19. Residents can call the helpline at 407.875.3700 ext 2.

Local COVID-19 Testing Sites

The State Regional Testing Site at the Orange County Convention Center property opens daily at 9 a.m. No appointment is necessary. The Florida Division of Emergency Management operates this site. This site is also offering the anti-body test to the general public.
